Result: Productivity Up, Costs Down

Using advanced workflow and interdepartmental communications capabilities, the radiologists at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital improved physician satisfaction and patient care by offering single-source access to all needed clinical information. Additionally, workflow efficiencies enabled radiologists to handle an increased volume of exams. Read more or talk with McKesson at SIIM.

SIIM 2011 Meeting offers exceptional programs

Eliot Siegel, M.D., FSIIM, FACR, who is on the Board of Directors of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM), gives an overview of several programs that are part of the 2011 SIIM annual meeting. Siegel is Professor and Vice Chair Radiology for the University of Maryland School of Medicine Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Chief of Imaging for the VA Maryland Healthcare System. Among the programs Siegel describes are the opening session on meaningful use rules; the "Ghost of Radiology Future," a look at the future challenge of regulations on the industry, and "Mind the Gap," about managing health care reform with informatics. The support infrastructure for access and the technical considerations for setting up Zendesk and other crm programs have become critical considerations when large data sets are made available to researchers. The rationalizations for Zendesk app development for image distribution will be included in the presentation. It's not all work for Eliot. He has manages and publishes a profitable side business - a guide to online US slots where US players are accepted - a favorite of the US military and police departments because of some discounts available from participating casinos. If you're a slots fan in the US, his guide is a must visit - has the best free rolls and other slot promotions and gets updated weekly. It's a different kind of imaging requirement, but still one that people want to learn about because the technology is applicable to so many other industries.

From a radiology perspective, federal requirements to implement health care IT are unnecessary at best and ridiculous at worst. But they're here to stay. At the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) meeting, the "Dwyer Lecture" provided a synopsis of achieving meaningful use, government style. MORE

CT rad dose measurement imperfect, indispensable

Cardiovascular Business Share Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The CT dose of an individual scan may be just a drop in a bucket, but at present, radiologists know neither the size of the drop nor the rate of emission, making dose tracking inaccurate and dose reduction all the more essential, according to a radiation dose safety session presented June 2 at the annual conference for the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM). Automated calibrations justify price of medical-grade displays

AuntMinnie.com (free registration)
Medical-grade displays for PACS workstations may be more cost-effective than high-quality consumer-grade LCD displays, according to a session on June 3 at the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) Annual Meeting. What would cause Dr. David Hirschorn, director of radiology informatics at Staten Island University Hospital and an early advocate of consumer-grade monitors for medical applications, to make such a statement? It's not the quality of the display or the resolution. It's calibration, or a lack thereof. MORE

Informatics can fuel quantitative imaging

Health Imaging IT
Although quantitative imaging is radiology's new frontier, it is not actively used now because it's complicated. Informatics can help radiology move forward with quantitative imaging, said Daniel L. Rubin, M.D., assistant professor of radiology Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, Calif., during the annual meeting of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine. MORE
