LEARNING TRACK 7:

IMAGING IN THE SUB-SPECIALTIES

Co-chairs:

Katherine P. Andriole, PhD, FSIIM; Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School
Richard H. Wiggins III, MD, CIIP; University of Utah Health Sciences Center

Imaging has come a long way since the days that it was solely focused within the radiology department. Imaging can now be widely found across the sub-specialties, such as surgical specialty clinics, cardiology, pathology, and veterinary medicine. Over the past few years, SIIM has been addressing the similarities and differences found in workflow and productivity issues, focusing on how we can learn from each other.

This track will consist of two complimentary educational sessions. These sessions will introduce the commonalities, as well as highlight the differences between imaging in radiology and in other biomedical image-intensive specialties, such as cardiology, pathology, dentistry, and veterinary medicine. Image acquisition, archival, management, use, reporting, and the overall imaging round trip workflow will be discussed. This will be followed by a detailed discussion and focus on the individual specialties, their current state, gaps and pain points, lessons learned, and future goals.
